Respect Life Program
The annual Respect Life Program is a year-round, nationwide effort to help Catholics understand, value, and become engaged with building a culture that cherishes every human life.
Although sponsored by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Respect Life Program is essentially comprised of the efforts of leaders throughout the Church like you—parish priests, staff, and volunteers; teachers and school administrators; diocesan leaders; and so many others.
The U.S. bishops produce these materials to assist you in your efforts. Instead of acting as stand-alone resources, they are designed to be brought to life as tools in your hands—build off or adapt them to fit your specific needs!
Respect Life Month: OCTOBER
Each October the Church in the United States celebrates Respect Life Month, and the first Sunday of October is observed as Respect Life Sunday. As Catholics, we are called to cherish, defend, and protect those who are most vulnerable, from the beginning of life to its end, and at every point in between. During the month of October, the Church asks us to reflect more deeply on the dignity of every human life.
Currently, our Parish Pro-Life Coordinators are implementing many of the ideas provided by the Respect Life Guides. If you would like some help doing any of these ideas in your parish, call our office. We're happy to help you!
Pro-Life Lesson Plans
The Pro-Life Office of the Diocese of Brownsville is excited to announce our new Pro-Life Lessons Plans available to all educators in the diocese. This curriculum highlights the Catholic teaching of respecting life at all stages. Students will be introduced to a variety of social topics and asked to apply the principles of Catholic Social Teaching to determine the best course of action in each situation through the lens of our Catholic faith. Through age-appropriate stories and activities, they will be challenged to put their faith into action. It invites students, at a grade-appropriate level, to understand why we believe what we do and what we can do to build a Culture of Life right here in the Rio Grande Valley.
Through these lesson plans, prayer, special projects, and service, students grades PK-12 reflect on the infinite love of Christ for each and every person.
This curriculum is a cross-curricular program. Teachers, campus ministers, and administrators are encouraged to work together to make the week meaningful and impactful for our students. We also strongly recommend involving parents by sharing with them what students learn.
This curriculum was adopted with permission by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles Office of Life, Justice & Peace and has been reviewed and approved by our most reverend Bishop Daniel E. Flores and the Office of Catholic Schools. Click here to view the Lesson Plans.
