The Media Resource Center is the Diocese of Brownsville’s primary collection of books and multimedia materials. The multimedia materials are available in a variety of formats including: VHS, DVD, Audio CD, CD-ROM and Audio-books.
The center features strong holdings in catechetical material, Spiritual books, Bibles, Lives of the Saints, Writings of the Church Fathers and Mothers, Mariology, Children’s books and many others as well as a wide range of secular material. The collection includes more than 6,000 pieces.
The Media Resource Center, which is housed in the San Pedro Building of the Upper Valley Pastoral Center in San Juan, is designed to promote Catholic and Christian values through audio/visual media and printed material. Sister Maureen Crosby, SSD, Coordinator of the Media Resource Center, carefully reviews each piece to ensure the material is consistent with the beliefs and teachings of the Church.
Besides reviewing the material, Sister Crosby is also responsible for cataloguing the material on the computer. She also stays informed on issues related to secular and religious media. She is a member of the National Association of Catechetical Media Professionals (NACMP), which promotes the development and effective use of media in faith formation through Catholic dioceses, according to the organization’s Web site.
The Media Resource Center is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 – 12:00, Wednesday & Friday, from 9:00 – 5:00. For those who can’t make the trip to San Juan, mail service is also available.
