On Saturday May 29, 2004, His Excellency, Bishop Raymundo Peña of the Diocese of Brownsville ordained Jorge a. In an awe inspiring ancient rite of the Church, the Families, crowd and priests throughout the diocese gather at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle-National Shrine in San Juan, Texas. to witness the beautiful ceremony which includes the prostration before the altar of God, the invocation of the Litany of the Saints, the imposition of hands (a tradition from the Apostolic Age), and the anointing of hands with Sacred Chrism. The ordination was followed by the traditional "First Mass" or the "Mass of Thanksgiving".

Rev. Jorge Antonio Gomez’s first Mass took place at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harlingen, Texas on Sunday, May 29, 2004 at 8:00am

Rev. Salvador Ramirez’s first Mass took place at St. Francis Xavier Parish in La Feria, Texas on Sunday, May 30, 2004 at 11:30 am

Family and friends, and specially the Church of the Rio Grande Valley gave thanks to Almighty God for the gift of the priesthood to the Church bestowed upon these servants of God. His Excellency, Bishop Raymundo Peña asked the faithful of the Rio Grande Valley to continue to pray for their newly ordained priests.

The Office of Vocations offers our prayers and sincere congratulations to the new priests. We wish them the best as they begin their sacred duties and entrust them to the care of the Mary our Blessed Mother, and Mother of Priests as they faithfully serve the Church. May they always truly represent Christ bringing the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament to his faithful people. May the Lord keep you and bless you always.
