San Juan Nursing Home - how to pay

    There is a variety of ways to pay for nursing home care: Medicaid, Medicare, Insurance and Private pay. (Please visit with our Accounting & Biling department for assistance in determining the particular options available to you.)

To qualify for Nursing Home Medicaid, client must:
• Be at least 65 years of age
• If under 65, be declared disabled by Social Security or by the Department of Human Services
• Be an American Citizen or a Legal Permanent Resident

Income Limit (for year 2005):
• $1,737.00 individual
• $3,474.00 couple

Resource Limit:
• $2,000.00 individual
• $3,000.00 couple

If client is receiving SSI only – contact Social Security and advise them. They do not need to apply with the Department of Human Services.
If client is receiving SSI and Social Security benefits or any other type of income – contact Social Security and refer them to the Department of Human Services to apply for Nursing Home Medicaid.

Cost of Nursing Home care is dependent on the level of care needed. Effective July 9, 2004, the fees are as follows:
• Intermediate care $125.00
• Skilled care $150.00
• Super Skilled care $175.00

These are daily rates that include:

ursing, laundry, dietary & social/activity services. Other services provided are billed to paying party.
