Prayer warriors needed

The 40 Days for Life campaign is an international effort to end abortion through prayer and fasting, peaceful vigil and community outreach.

Pro-life warriors in the Rio Grande Valley will be uniting with many others from coast to coast – and internationally – for a major simultaneous pro-life mobilization throughout the season of Lent.

The campaign runs from Wednesday, March 1 through Sunday, April 9. Vigils will be held daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. outside of the McAllen abortion facility. More prayer warriors are needed to ensure that the sidewalk is covered throughout the campaign.

Eighty to 100 babies are aborted each week in our community, according to estimates by the McAllen Pregnancy Center, a Catholic, pro-life facility that serves families facing a crisis pregnancy. Nationally, more than a million babies are aborted each year, according to the National Right to Life Educational Foundation.

The 40 Days for Life has generated measurable life-saving results. Campaigns have been held throughout the world in 675 cities. From 2007 through the end of 2016, more than 12,000 lives have been confirmed as saved from abortion. More than 80 abortion facilities have closed and 143 abortion workers have quit their jobs.

40 Days for Life is a cross-denominational, faith-based effort made up of three key components:
Prayer and Fasting: inviting people of faith throughout our city to join together for 40 days of fervent prayer and fasting for an end to abortion
Peaceful Vigil: standing for life through a 40-day peaceful, prayerful, public witness outside the local surgical abortion facilities
Community Outreach: taking a positive, loving, upbeat pro-life message to every corner of our city through media efforts, church presentations, public visibility and even through interactions with family, friends and co-workers.
